la lotta di giacobbe

triptych
acrylic on canvas
70 x 210 h
Sant'Albano Stura, 2017

This triptych dedicated to the biblical episode
of the Struggle of Jacob was planed
on the occasion of a spiritual retreat,
formation and artistic workshop week
about contemporary sacred art
at the Kunst-Station Sankt Peter
in Cologne in September 2016
and realized in the next year.

MANSIT SOLUS ET ECCE VIR
LUCTABATUR CUM EO USQUE MANE.

Jacob was left there alone. Then some man
wrestled with him until the break of dawn.

(The Bible, Genesis 32, 25)

DIC MIHI, QUO APPELLARIS NOMINE?
CUR QUAERIS NOMEN MEUM?

Jacob then asked him,
«Do tell me your name, please.»
He answered,
«Why should you want to know my name?»

(The Bible, Genesis 32, 30)

VIDI DEUM FACIE AD FACIEM,
ET SALVA FACTA EST ANIMA MEA.

«I have seen God face to face,» - he said -,
«yet my life has been spared.»

(The Bible, Genesis 32, 31)

The creative process of this work
is described in detail
in my publication entitled
THE STRUGGLE OF JACOB,
The Story of a Triptych
